The
purpose of the Master of Public Health degree (MPH), organised by the
Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, is to provide
structured training in the public health disciplines to enable
postgraduates in Hong Kong and countries in the Asia Pacific Region to
embark on specialised studies, practice or teaching, and for career and
personal development. Course
work in public health, health policy and management and behavioural
sciences provides the ground work for advanced study in every aspect of
public health. These
courses are essential for the practice of public health, for
population-based primary care, and for evaluating clinical effectiveness
in specialty medicine.
The MPH curriculum is organised along modular units in order to cater for the needs and aspirations of individuals. Candidates successfully completing the MPH course will have obtained in-depth knowledge of an area of a particular discipline which will enable them to engage effectively in teaching, professional practice, and/or research. The modular configuration of the course also permits registered medical practitioners or others, who wish to enhance their professional skills but do not intend to seek the MPH qualification, to take only selected modules in the specialised field of study.
